This one runs as an interactive workshop: the hour includes exercises your colleagues do themselves, not only a talk.
"What’s their name again? Why did I walk into this room? What were my 4 actions from that last team meeting? Where did I put my car keys?! Aaaargh!” We all have ‘memory’ but we all seem to want to improve it.
But how? After all, those with a good memory are often more productive, accurate and perceived to be more reliable and trustworthy. In this insightful, fun and massively practical Leqture, Dr. T will take you on a journey into the mechanics of memory, explain why our brains forget and teach you some techniques to radically improve your memory power.
During the expert session, Dr. Tharaka engages the audience through a Q&A session, live demonstrations of memory techniques such as the Peg System or Memory Cloak Room, and interactive exercises using the Mentimeter app.
These activities help participants grasp the practical applications of memory improvement techniques, inspire them to apply these skills in their daily lives, and address their questions or concerns about enhancing their memory function. Tharaka also presents tips for improving memory, such as getting enough sleep, practicing relaxation techniques, socializing, hydration, learning new skills, morning blurting, and consuming certain foods like blueberries for cognitive fitness.
To assess participants' knowledge, Tharaka uses a series of polls and quizzes on the Mentimeter app, encouraging active participation and testing recall rather than recognition.
Creating mental associations between numbers and specific shapes or images using the Peg System enhances memory skills. For example, a candle symbolizes sleep, a swan represents relaxation, and a sailboat signifies hydration.
Consuming foods like blueberries improves cognitive fitness and boosts long-term memory. Incorporate these nutritious choices for better memory performance in both the present and future.
Engage in interactive activities during memory improvement sessions, such as Mentimeter polls and self-testing assessments, to strengthen your memory muscles and enhance your ability to recall information effectively.
In this expert session, Dr. Tharaka discusses various aspects of memory improvement and the importance of changing one's mindset towards it. Tharaka begins by explaining that recall memory is only effective if you can bring it to mind when needed.
He then introduces the Peg System or Memory Cloak Room as a technique for remembering new information more effectively.
Tharaka demonstrates this method by associating numbers with specific shapes and mental images. For instance, one might be imagined as a candle, two as a swan, three as a heart, and so on, up to ten being a fork and plate.
He encourages attendees to practice regularly and emphasizes the importance of taking breaks during learning for better cognitive fitness.
Tharaka further explores memory, highlighting that our thoughts and beliefs about our memory can influence its effectiveness significantly. He shares that the human mind functions like an iceberg, with a small short-term memory and a vast long-term memory.
Tharaka also emphasizes understanding the difference between short-term and long-term memory.
To help attendees remember the techniques discussed, Tharaka creates associations between various objects and corresponding concepts. For example, a candle could symbolize getting enough sleep for good memory, while a swan might represent relaxation and managing stress.
A sailboat may signify hydration's importance, and a snake could remind us to test our memory through exercises like quizzes or games.
Tharaka then discusses additional methods to enhance memory function, such as consuming certain foods like blueberries for cognitive fitness and improved memory. He tests the attendees' knowledge using a Mentimeter poll, asking them to identify each tip from visual cues.
These tips include stress management, socializing, hydration, exercise, learning new skills, morning blurting, and nutrition. Tharaka assesses their recall through a series of questions instead of multiple-choice selections to gauge their memory abilities more accurately.
Throughout the session, Tharaka encourages active participation from attendees and offers valuable insights into brain science and techniques for improving focus, concentration, and reducing forgetfulness. He emphasizes that with dedication and practice, one can significantly improve their memory skills and lead a less chaotic life.
From the survey every participant gets when the session ends, in their own words.
Very good lecture, the speaker was easy to follow and clear in explaining the concepts. I enjoyed it very much especially the practical part where Dr. Tharaka esplained the memory techniques. Thank you
It was great. Thank you for the opportunity to attend such meeting.
It was interesting topic. Thanks.
Great first session. Thank you
Dr T's session was engaging and entertaining, brilliant use of multiple cameras and visual aids (Great Livestream production too!) to re-enforce the advice he was giving.
Associate a story with what you want to remember. Believe that you can remember. Practice paying attention. feed your mind well. use your mind-practice with techniques. Liked the exercises! well done for an online lecture.
Thank you very much. It was a very intensive and interactive session. Very useful....
Used the QR code to enter the Menti session. When you do this, and you lose your Menti session it's difficult to join again. Then one has to participate via the Chat window. Will you please keep QR code or Menti code accessible? Thank you,
It is interactive, and the block above says exactly how for this session. Nobody has to speak up who does not want to: the chat and the polls carry most of it, and the questions can come in anonymously.
"What’s their name again? Why did I walk into this room? It is built for a general working audience: no prior knowledge is assumed, and people who already know the subject get the research and the practical side rather than an introduction.
A workshop. The description of this session says so itself: the hour includes exercises and activities that participants do, not only an expert speaking. It still runs live and online, for as many colleagues as you want to invite.
It runs 45 min / 15 min: the talk, then live questions. All you do is pick a date. We brief Dr., produce the session, host and moderate it, run the Q&A, and send you the report within an hour of the end.
A team, a department, an employee network or every single employee at once, with no cap and no per-seat price. It runs inside your own Microsoft Teams, Zoom or Google Meet, or on a branded page we build. No integration, no login, no company device or e-mail.
The session is delivered in English. You can add high accuracy live subtitles in 8, 16 or 24 languages, so everyone follows in their own. That is a paid option, priced by the number of languages you need.
No, and that is by design. There is nothing to install, nothing to integrate and no connection to your systems, so there is nothing for IT to validate: we join your own Teams, Zoom or Meet as a guest speaker, or we host a page and your people open a link. No software, no accounts, and no data of yours that we can reach. It is why hundreds of companies, among them some of the largest technology and financial firms in the world, were able to start within a day.
We never receive or hold personal data about your employees. Because the session runs in your own environment, attendance and identity stay with you, and what we report back is aggregated: numbers, ratings and survey answers, not people. That is also why IT approval usually takes minutes rather than weeks.
You keep the recording and can share it internally. You also get attendance over time, participant ratings for the content and the speaker, the survey answers, and the topics your people asked for next.
