Breaking the Burnout Cycle: Early Intervention Strategies for Workplace Wellness
In this session, participants learn about burnout misconceptions and their impact on health and productivity. While not officially recognised by the WHO as a medical condition, burnout can trigger serious physical and mental health consequences.
Claire outlines five burnout stages: Denial, Honeymoon Phase, Onset of Stress, Chronic Stress, and Habitual Burnout. Attendees learn about early recognition and intervention, discovering that individuals often miss warning signs during the denial phase. Key recovery strategies covered include regaining control over work-life balance, building supportive workplace relationships, and managing workload to match current capacity. The aim of the session is to empower participants with the skills and knowledge they need as individuals to take control of their stress.
Imposter Syndrome and Perfectionism
In this expert session, Dr. Claire explores imposter syndrome, persistent feelings of inadequacy and fear of being exposed as a fraud, despite evident success. She outlines five types: the Perfectionist, Expert, Soloist, Superhero, and Natural Genius, all linked to unrealistic expectations and self-criticism.
Dr. Claire distinguishes imposter syndrome from normal self-doubt, noting that while self-doubt can motivate growth, imposter syndrome often harms mental health. She recommends managing it through self-compassion, mindfulness, and redefining perfectionism. High achievers are especially prone to it, and chronic symptoms may require therapy or boundary-setting.
Ultimately, Dr. Claire emphasizes recognizing symptoms, addressing harmful work environments, and using practical tools to reduce imposter syndrome’s impact on well-being.
