The Power of Thoughts

Session Summary

How you navigate through life and how you feel largely depends on your thoughts. Your thoughts are immensely powerful. They determine how you feel, your decisions and your actions. There will always be events and circumstances that you cannot control.

But if you learn to control your thoughts, your mood and behavior no longer depend on circumstances but on you. Only by mastering your inner world, you can successfully navigate your outer world and embody the change you envision.During this session you will:

Interaction

During the expert session, Daphne Feller engages the audience through various means, including a Q&A session, live demonstrations of mindfulness exercises, and interactive activities using the Mentimeter app. Participants are encouraged to reflect on their personal goals and negative thoughts, challenging them with cognitive-behavioral therapy techniques.

The use of Mentimeter allows for sharing insights and taking actionable steps towards growth. Additionally, Daphne emphasizes the importance of self-care, setting positive goals, and building a supportive network for personal development.

Detailed session description

In this expert session, Daphne Feller delves into the profound impact of negative thoughts on our brains and how they can hinder our abilities to focus on positivity and progress. Our brain's primary function is to keep us safe, making it prone to focusing more on potential threats – negative thoughts – that need addressing.

Humans are known to experience a vast number of thoughts daily, often dwelling on the negative ones. These thoughts can significantly impact self-confidence and feelings of importance in both professional and social settings.

To combat this mental obstacle, Daphne suggests being aware of these negative thoughts and making a conscious effort to create positive ones instead. She encourages participants to write down a specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound goal for the year and challenge any negative thoughts or beliefs that surface when considering achieving it.

By asking themselves whether each thought is true, what evidence supports its inaccuracy, the potential consequences of continuing to believe it, and how they can reframe it positively, individuals can begin to rewire their brains and create new, more positive pathways.

The expert session also touches upon mindfulness meditation and other relaxation techniques as valuable tools in reducing stress and anxiety, ultimately making it easier to identify and challenge negative thoughts. Daphne emphasizes the significance of having a supportive network – or "dream team" – during challenging times.

She encourages reaching out to these individuals for honest feedback and support when facing negative thoughts or uncertainty.

Throughout the session, Daphne discusses the brain's ability to adapt and change through neuroplasticity. She advocates for prioritizing self-care, setting positive goals, focusing on opportunities instead of problems, and learning from mistakes.

She recommends practicing "brain dumping" – writing down all thoughts before going to bed – to help fall asleep more easily.

During the discussion, Daphne touches upon the role of guilt in the brain's evolution process and its significance as a moral compass. She notes that modern lifestyles often lead individuals to experience excessive feelings of guilt due to pressure and stress.

To build new habits or thought patterns, she advises that it typically takes around two months and emphasizes the importance of having emotional drive and a clear goal for success.

The session concludes with Daphne reminding participants to prioritize self-awareness and the power they hold in changing negative thoughts into positive ones.

Questions about The Power of Thoughts

Is this session interactive, or do people just watch?

It is interactive, and the block above says exactly how for this session. Nobody has to speak up who does not want to: the chat and the polls carry most of it, and the questions can come in anonymously.

Is this for beginners or for people who already know the subject?

How you navigate through life and how you feel largely depends on your thoughts. Your thoughts are immensely powerful. It is built for a general working audience: no prior knowledge is assumed, and people who already know the subject get the research and the practical side rather than an introduction.

Is Daphne the right expert for this?

Daphne Feller is one of the experts we auditioned ourselves, and we produce every session so we see how each one lands. Participants rate this session 4.2 out of 5, across 517 responses, and rate Daphne personally 4.5 out of 5.

How long does it take, and what do we have to prepare?

It runs 45 min / 15 min: the talk, then live questions. All you do is pick a date. We brief Daphne, produce the session, host and moderate it, run the Q&A, and send you the report within an hour of the end.

Who can join, and where does it run?

A team, a department, an employee network or every single employee at once, with no cap and no per-seat price. It runs inside your own Microsoft Teams, Zoom or Google Meet, or on a branded page we build. No integration, no login, no company device or e-mail.

Can our global colleagues follow it?

The session is delivered in English, Dutch. You can add high accuracy live subtitles in 8, 16 or 24 languages, so everyone follows in their own. That is a paid option, priced by the number of languages you need.

Will our IT department have a problem with this?

No, and that is by design. There is nothing to install, nothing to integrate and no connection to your systems, so there is nothing for IT to validate: we join your own Teams, Zoom or Meet as a guest speaker, or we host a page and your people open a link. No software, no accounts, and no data of yours that we can reach. It is why hundreds of companies, among them some of the largest technology and financial firms in the world, were able to start within a day.

How does this work under GDPR?

We never receive or hold personal data about your employees. Because the session runs in your own environment, attendance and identity stay with you, and what we report back is aggregated: numbers, ratings and survey answers, not people. That is also why IT approval usually takes minutes rather than weeks.

What do we get afterwards?

You keep the recording and can share it internally. You also get attendance over time, participant ratings for the content and the speaker, the survey answers, and the topics your people asked for next.
